2022 – A Record-Breaking Year
Despite the effects of the pandemic, our students’ success went from strength to strength putting our GCSE and A Level attainment in the top 2% nationally
1st in Dorset, 4th in the South West, 65th in the UK*
With such a turbulent few years, we were more than pleased to see record-breaking results from last academic year.
Nationally in 2022, BSG sits within the top 100 UK schools for GCSE attainment (GCSE Grades), and the best overall GCSE grades in Dorset. We also are proud of the fact that students don’t just get high grades, but also make exceptional progress, with our school in the top 20% for progress from Key Stage 2 nationally.
The recent *Sunday Times Schools Guide 2022 (published December 2022), puts BSG in the top 4 State Schools in the South West and 65th in the UK (out of approximately 3460 state secondary schools).
These impressive results are a testament to the effort and ambition of our students, supported by expert staff including through the COVID19 pandemic.
The new GCSE grading system began in 2018 with Grades at GCSE given a number from 1 to 9. Grade 4/5 is equivalent to an old system Grade C, Grade 6 = B and Grade 7 = A.
The average grade in BSG at GCSE in 2022 was a 7.4, in the old grade system that would be half way between a Grade A and A*.
Below shows a table of the average grade in each GCSE subject studied at BSG.
|Art & Design||7.1||Geography||7.6|
|English Language||7.4||Religious Studies||7.8|
|Food Preparation and Nutrition||7.7||Spanish||8.1|

Studying at BSG Sixth Form is more than about good A Level results. We aim to deliver students excellent teaching and learning experiences that deepens their knowledge and passion for their subjects.
Even this being the case, we are extremely proud of our academic success year on year. This has never been more the case than this summer where we had our first set of post-COVID exam results at A Level.
