We nevertheless ask students intending to remain at BSG to complete the Sixth Form registration and initial subject-choice process by 30 January to support curriculum and timetable planning. Progression into Year 12 is subject to students meeting the published Sixth Form academic entry requirements. In the meantime, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us either by phone on 01202 526289 or by email to office@bsg.bournemouth.sch.uk.
We welcome all prospective Year 11 students from Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, Dorset and Hampshire.
Key Dates for Prospective Students – 2027/28
- BSG Sixth Form Open Evening: Thursday 5 November 2026, 6pm–8pm.
- Applications Open for BSG Sixth Form: Our online application system (Applicaa) will open on 5th November 2026.
- BSG Sixth Form Taster Day: Tuesday 1 December 2026. Advance registration is required, with booking details on Applicaa.

Applicants will receive further information within two weeks of the application deadline.
Course choice combinations
We offer a free choice in terms of combinations of options in the initial application phase. Once the January deadline has passed we will model our final timetable blocking on the combination that offers the most students their subject choice combination. Where a certain combination of subjects is deemed not possible (this is typically fewer than 4% of applicants) we will contact applicants to discuss in February.
If you have any questions, please contact us by telephone on 01202 526289 or by email at sixthformadmissions@bsg.bournemouth.sch.uk.
Detailed information about our A Level courses is available on our website. We encourage prospective students to explore the subjects available, speak to their teachers and consider which qualifications will best support their future educational and career aspirations.
Course requirements
Entry Requirements for our sixth form including specific entry requirements are outlined below.
The minimum entry requirement for BSG Sixth Form is six GCSEs at Grade 6 or above, with at least Grade 4 in both GCSE English and Mathematics.
Students must select:
- A minimum of three A Level courses. We recommend that most students study three A Levels.
- Scholars’ Pathway: Students achieving an average GCSE point score of Grade 8 or above may be considered for four full A Level courses. Other factors will also be considered, and students will be invited to a Sixth Form Guidance meeting to ensure that this is the appropriate pathway.
- Elective Pathway: Students may select an additional qualification, such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), CREST Award or Core Mathematics, alongside their three full A Levels.
- Further Mathematics: Further Mathematics counts as two full A Levels. Students wishing to study Further Mathematics must therefore select a third and fourth subject choice.
BSG Sixth Form Registration Afternoon – GCSE Results Day 2027
We recognise that GCSE results may influence students’ decisions about which subjects they wish to study at Sixth Form.
On GCSE Results Day in August 2027, students will have the opportunity to attend school in person to confirm their registration and, where appropriate, discuss changes to their subject choices.
Changes will be subject to students meeting the relevant entry requirements and the availability of places on individual courses.
Oversubscription and Conditional Offers
Students who apply to BSG Sixth Form may receive a conditional offer to begin their studies in September 2027.
As some applicants ultimately choose to study elsewhere, we normally make more conditional offers than the number of places available.
In the event of oversubscription, either across the Sixth Form or within individual subjects following GCSE Results Day 2027, places will be allocated in accordance with our published Sixth Form Admissions Policy.
Please note: A conditional offer does not guarantee admission to the Sixth Form or a place on a particular course. Where demand exceeds available places, the published admissions criteria will determine how places are allocated.
We strongly encourage prospective students and their families to familiarise themselves with our admissions policy before applying.
