Chair of Governors Update

As the autumn term draws to a close it’s a good time to take a breath and look forward to a well-deserved Christmas break for everyone at BSG.

The term has been a very busy one as usual for Governors with committees focussing on finance, staffing, curriculum, exam results and both student and staff wellbeing.

Highlights for Governors included practice interviews for early University applicants which gave us the opportunity to see just how outstanding our year 13 have become as they prepare to leave BSG and go on to further their education.

We welcome 3 new parent Governors to the board of trustees (Mrs Zeena Bonds, Mr Hugh Kennedy and Mr Ali-Jara Shah) and 1 new Community Governor (Mr Adam Mills) and look forward to their valued contribution in the coming years.

I recently had the pleasure to attend the latest PSA trustee meeting chaired by Kate Thomas together with other PSA trustees, Melanie Parker, Sam Boullin and Kerry Jackson. I’ve previously made comment that the support provided to the school by the PSA is a much-valued asset. The meeting made this even more apparent to me.

A great example of the work the PSA undertake was the Christmas Fair held on 12th November, which was a great success, beating all records and raising just under £8,000. I would like to thank all parents who worked tirelessly and contributed to this success; your work makes a huge difference.

The PSA trustees have a clear direction, with an exciting vision for how the funds raised can be spent for the benefit of BSG students and are a valued stakeholder for BSG. As I have previously said, I would encourage parents and carers to take an active interest. If you do nothing else, follow “Bournemouth School for Girls PSA” on Facebook to find out what they are up to and how you can participate.

Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to thank my colleague Governor Trustees and Members, as well as all the staff and students at BSG for their hard work and dedication over the past year. I wish you a very happy, healthy and peaceful time over the holiday period.

As always, I endeavour to keep you up to date on the work of the Board of Trustees. However, if you wish to contact me directly to discuss any matters, I can be reached at pfitzpatrick@bsg.bournemouth.sch.uk
