 FRIDAY 22 AUGUST, 12:00 PM – DEADLINE

  • Submit the Applicaa Enrolment Form
  • (If external) Upload your official GCSE results
  • (If changing subjects) Submit the Subject Change Form

What Happens After the Enrolment Deadline?

Due to potential oversubscription and in line with our Admissions Policy, no student is guaranteed a place in the Sixth Form — even if they meet the minimum entry and course-specific requirements.

Students who submit their enrolment form by 12:00 PM on Friday 22 August will be considered as on-time applicants.

These students will be:

  • Prioritised in the allocation process, subject to meeting the entry and subject requirements.
  • Ranked by Average Point Score (APS) achieved at GCSE out of best 8 GCSEs.
  • Allocated places on courses and in form groups in descending APS order.
  • If the Sixth Form or a specific course is oversubscribed, places will be allocated to the highest-ranking students by APS.
  • Final confirmation of places (both in the Sixth Form and on courses) will be communicated within a few days of the deadline.

What if I Submit the Enrolment Form After the Deadline?

Students submitting after 12:00 PM on Friday 22 August will be placed on the Enrolment Waiting List. These applications will be considered only if spaces remain and will be processed in the following way:

  • ‘Day Batch’ processing will be used to review late submissions in daily groups.
  • Within each Day Batch, students will be ranked by APS, and any available places will be allocated accordingly.
  • Late submission significantly reduces the likelihood of securing a place, particularly on high-demand courses.

Day Batching for Late Submissions

To ensure fairness in reviewing late submissions:

Batch Submission Time Consideration Basis
Batch 1 Before 12:00 PM, Friday 22 August Prioritised; ranked by APS
Batch 2 After 12:00 PM, Friday 22 August Waiting list; ranked by APS within this batch
Batch 3 Saturday 23 August Waiting list; ranked by APS within this batch
Batch 4 Sunday 24 August Waiting list; ranked by APS within this batch
Each subsequent calendar day Reviewed by batch & APS; subject to space and availability

Subject Change Requests

Subject change requests will also be reviewed in order of submission time and depend on available places on courses remaining. These will be dealt with in ‘Day Batches’ alongside enrolment submissions.

Want to Change Subjects After Enrolling?

  1. Check you meet the subject entry requirements.
  2. Check if the new subject fits in your timetable block: https://wearebsg.uk/sixth-form/applications/
  3. Submit a  Subject Change Form (Microsoft Form)
  4. Requests will be processed in the order they are received.

What If I Don’t Meet the Entry Criteria?

  • Unfortunately, you will not be able to take up your place at BSG Sixth Form.
  • Please speak to your current school or the local authority for next steps.

Final Decisions

  • All final decisions on Sixth Form places will be made by Mr Toby Osborne (Assistant Headteacher/ Curriculum Lead) based on strictly following the BSG Sixth Form Admissions Policy.
  • The final authority lies with Headteacher Mr David Sims.

Want to Appeal?

If you wish to appeal a decision made, we will be holding an appeals day on 28th August 2025 at BSG. You will need to write to our admissions email address (sixthformadmissions@bsg.bournemouth.sch.uk) outlining why you disagree with the decision and any potential mitigating circumstances that you feel means you should be granted a place. By 26th August at 3:00PM. The internal review panel will take this into consideration, however, will still use the normal Sixth Form admissions criteria as already outlined, to check this has been followed correctly.

Independent Appeals Panel

If you are still not happy with the decision you have the right to appeal via our independent appeals panel which is being held on the 29th September 2025. This is conducted via the Coastal Association of School Appeals. More details can be found here: School Admission Appeals

The minimum entry requirement for BSG Sixth Form is six Grade 6s at GCSE (however maths and English GCSE must be at least Grade 4).

You must select:

– A minimum of 3 A Level courses.

– You are recommended to only study three A levels, however our Scholars’ Pathway enables students to select 4 full A Level choices if their average point score is Grade 8 or above (other factors will also be taken into consideration and you will be invited to a Sixth Form Guidance meeting to ensure this is the right pathway for you.

– You may choose EPQ, CREST Award or Core Maths in addition to the 3 full A Levels as part of the Elective Pathway.
– Further Maths counts as two full A levels and to select this you must have a third AND fourth choice.

BSG Sixth Form Registration Afternoon (GCSE Results Day)

Results of actual GCSEs may change a student’s view on what courses they want to take in the Sixth Form. Students will get the opportunity to come in after their results to make these changes if they have met the entry requirements, this is alongside confirming registration in person on the results day in the summer.

Oversubscription

Students who apply to our sixth form and are expected to achieve the required entry requirements will be given a conditional offer of a place to study from September 2026. However, we will always offer more places than are available (as there are always students who choose to not study with us after applying). In the event of oversubscription of the Sixth Form or individual courses post results day 2026, places will be allocated based on our admissions policy ranking, please see it for further details. Therefore there is a chance even with a conditional offer, students may not be allocated a place on a specific course, or the sixth form at all if they are of lower ranking.

All detailed information about our courses is on our website. Please use this website and discussions with teachers about what courses you may want to do and may need to do to progress in your chosen career path.

The 16 – 19 Bursary Fund is the responsibility of the education provider such as the school or college and is intended to support students in financial need through their sixth form studies.  All institutions have been given guidelines on how the Bursary Fund can be distributed to students.   Further details of these guidelines can be found on the ESFA (The Education and Skills Funding Agency) website at:-

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/16-to-19-education-financial-support-for-students#to-19-bursary-fund

Our policy is here: https://wearebsg.uk/documents/2025/09/sixthformbursary.docx/

The Guaranteed Bursary or Vulnerable Bursary

The ESFA has stated that the Fund is aimed at supporting the most vulnerable students.  In order to obtain the guaranteed 16 – 19 Bursary Fund a student must be on a full time programme of study and must fulfil one of the 4 categories below:-

  • children in care
  • care leavers
  • young people in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit
  • young people in receipt of both Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments and Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit.

The Discretionary 16 – 19 Bursary

This fund is aimed at students whose families have a gross annual income of below £28,000.

Applications for the 16 – 19 Bursary Fund must be received by 30 September 2025.

Students may be eligible for a contribution towards the cost of transport to and from school, breakfast at school, essential course equipment or requirements such as school visits.

The school may purchase textbooks for you to use and return back to BSG when you have completed your course.

Please indicate your particular needs with estimated costs (e.g. bus fares/books).  Any bursaries granted will be on an individual needs basis.

Further financial support

Applications for financial support towards essential course costs such as trips and other course related activities will be considered on a needs basis.  These will be considered during the school year and will be subject to sufficient funds being available.

How to apply for funding

All initial applications for the 16 – 19 Bursary Fund must be received by 30 September 2025.  We will continue to consider new applications during the school year as family circumstances may change.

Applications must be supported by appropriate evidence.  Examples of evidence include:

  • a letter provided by Social Services stating the benefits to which the young person is entitled
  • written confirmation from the Local Authority of the young person’s current or previous looked after status
  • evidence of entitlement to free school meals
  • evidence of the family’s income such as benefit entitlement or P60 or Tax Credit Award Notice

All applications and personal details are treated in the strictest confidence.

Notification of Application

Applicants who have successfully demonstrated their eligibility to receive a bursary, will be notified by letter setting out the conditions of bursary funding, the weekly bursary amount to be paid what the student may apply to the bursary fund for, and whether the school will purchase textbooks that the student may use and then return to the school.

Conditions

All payments will be conditional upon the following:

  • full attendance at all timetabled sessions
  • any absences must be authorised. See published details in student handbooks
  • a satisfactory record of punctuality for registration and lessons
  • appropriate standards of behaviour according to our behaviour policy
  • satisfactory standards of progress in all subjects
  • completion of all course related work

Any bursaries granted may be withdrawn if these conditions are not met.

Appeals

Appeals against eligibility for financial support and for non-payment should be put in writing and addressed to the Clerk to the Governors.  A panel of governors will consider each appeal.

How the money will be paid

Money will be paid on a half termly basis by bank transfer.
