How the UK’s first All-Girl Team became International Award Winners

We are thrilled to announce that our all-girl team, representing the UK, has achieved a groundbreaking victory at the FIRST Global Challenge 2024 in Athens! The team has brought home the prestigious Katherine Johnson Award for Engineering Documentation, making them the first-ever UK team to win an individual award at this renowned international competition. Competing against nearly 200 teams from around the world, they stood out not only for their innovative robot design but also for their exceptional teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

This achievement highlights our commitment to promoting STEM education and inspiring future leaders, especially in encouraging young women to pursue careers in engineering and technology. We are incredibly proud of our all-girl team for their ambition, perseverance, and dedication.

We are excited to introduce Team Great Britain 2024, the remarkable group of young engineers were selected to represent the United Kingdom at the FIRST Global Competition in Athens from September 26th to 29th! This dynamic all-girl team, was been chosen for their exceptional skills in robotics, coding, and engineering.

Team Great Britain 2024 is led by the talented members of Team Ultraviolet, who in June 2024 clinched the National Championship and the prestigious Inspire Award in FIRST Tech Challenge in the United Kingdom. Their journey to the top was marked by dedication, innovation, and an unwavering passion for STEM, capturing the attention of the BBC Click team along the way.

As they geared up for the FIRST Global Competition, Team UK 2024 engaged in rigorous preparations, community outreach, and fundraising efforts. They aimed to widen their efforts in engaging more girls in STEM in their region of the UK.

From 26-29 September 2024, students from 190+ countries will unite in Athens, Greece. As the home of the ancient and modern Olympics, we are proud to bring the world together in a city with a rich history of international collaboration and global sports.
