At BSG Robotics our Core Mission is Building Engineers of the Future. We are an all girls robotics, engineering and STEM Outreach club that aims to inspire the next generation of students in the engineering and tech sectors.
Founded in 2022, our club consists of six teams of students ranging from aged 11 to 18 supported by staff volunteers and Sixth Form student mentors. We meet throughout the week in our design technology department. In total around 80-100 girls participate in national competitions each year. In just three years our teams have won over 15 regional, national and international awards.

BSG Robotics | Our story
Our club takes part in FIRST ® TECH CHALLENGE, the world’s largest STEM competition for students and FIRST ® LEGO League. Currently we compete in regional competitions (that we host) and the FIRST ® TECH CHALLENGE UK National Competition held each year.
In our first year, we secured the UK National Championship THINK Award for engineering and became UK National Runners Up in the DESIGN and CONNECT Award categories, recognizing our robot design and community outreach. In our second year, we won the regional INSPIRE AWARD, followed by the 2024 UK INSPIRE Award at the national championships, earning us the national title.
Our most biggest and most extraordinary achievement came at the FIRST Global Challenge 2024 in Athens, where a group of our winners represented the UK on the international stage. Making history, they brought home the Katherine Johnson Award for Engineering Documentation, becoming the first UK team ever to win an individual team award at FIRST Global. This accomplishment reflects not only their technical skills but also their teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and ambition.
For the 24/25 Season – INTO THE DEEP we hosted our biggest regional event ever and won the SW INSPIRE Award alongside this qualifying or national championships for the third time out of three years. At Nationals in 2025 we achieved 2nd and 3rd in two different award categories.
However, our club is #morethanrobots. We focus on developing a wide range of skills in our students, enhancing their educational journey and inspiring them to consider STEM careers, particularly in mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. A true collaboration between our D&T and Computing Departments, BSG Robotics also partners with industry mentors to inspire students and deepen their understanding of real-world engineering. In the 2024/25 season we reached out to primary and secondary school partners for our club to engage 4,000 young people in outreach!

In their Rookie Season -Team ULTRAVIOLET win three national awards, including becoming National THINK Award Winners for their engineering process and design.

A brand new FIRST Tech Challenge Season begins. This year the robot game looks even more challenging!

As the SW Champion Org. we lead the SW region expansion to 25 teams and over 400 students, including a third team in our own club - The Orange Bytes.
